The travel team arrived safely yesterday. Upon arrival, they received the sad news of Sor Elisa Tejada’s passing. She was 97 years old and had been in declining health the past few years. Her visitation was held throughout the night with a nun with her at all times. The girls in the orphanage were allowed to also spend time with her and pray. The girls will not go to school today (Friday). The funeral is scheduled for this morning at 8:30 am. Sor Elisa was known for her gentle kindness, her wit, and her love of the outdoors as she tended the gardens and animals at the orphanage well into her 90’s. She even kept bees there until recently. Everyone is very sad and will miss her greatly. They are expecting a very large turn out at the funeral today. Please pray for the repose of her soul and for peace for all those who have known and loved her. Let the Lord shine down on her funeral mass today to celebrate her earthly life and to bring her into our heavenly Father’s arms for eternity.
The St. Michael’s parish extends our sympathy to the nuns, girls, Joe, friends and family of Sor Elisa.

I was so sad to get the news about Sor Elisa. What a long and beautiful life! We should all be so lucky as to die surrounded by love and in the sure knowledge that heaven waits for us. Rest in peace, Sor.

She was an amazing individual and will be deeply missed. I can see her in her beekeeper hat gathering the honey or walking down the cobblestone streets to the Cathedral with her cane as I write this. There is no doubt her soul went right to heaven. May God’s grace rest upon her.
