In this modern world we live in, it’s easy to get caught up in our pursuits of worldly treasures to bring us happiness. However, we eventually come to find that these “treasures” are fleeting and don’t bring us sustainable happiness. And as we learned in this past Sunday’s gospel, Jesus tells us we are sorely mistaken by seeking to store up our worldly treasures; for those who do are not rich in what matters to God.
It’s love, humility, generosity and kindness with others that brings us the sustainable happiness that we all seek…namely through the gift of relationship. It is THIS, that matters most to God. And never before was this gift on display for the ‘Elite 8’ – Robin and Magda Snyder, Jane Rall, Lynn Pollack, Sharon Costello and Emily, Julie and Todd Koca – than it was tonight.
From the minute we walked through the doors of the Hogar de Niñas to our exit a couple hours later, we all experienced non-stop hugs, smiles, laughter, conversation, and music…not to mention a fantastic meal cooked by the nuns and some of the older girls. The first timers on this trip (Sharon, Emily and Julie) were shocked and amazed by the love and generosity shared by all. Their question afterwards was, “is it always like this?” The answer is an emphatic YES…and we can’t wait to get more of it tomorrow.
All praise, glory and honor to God for such an incredible first day!
Tito Koca
