Jan. 5: Feast of the Epiphany
¡Hola amigos!
We are finishing up yet another beautifully busy day here in Santa Rosa.
We started as usual with breakfast with the Sors, and then headed to mass with the Ninas. It is hard to even remember mass this morning with the niñas as it seems like days ago! Though, I do remember the priests homily being long. Then we went shopping with our team and the Diamantes for groceries and goodies. Of course we had to stop to get Mike some café after (pics below).
After, I got to meet the elderly for the first time. We celebrated the Epiphany with lots of cake and dancing. I swear Crescencio ate at least 10 pieces!! We also celebrated with the niñas with some fun activities and more cake of course. Shoutout to Jenny for planning two amazing activities that were not only entertaining, but also included some very important teaching moments for the niñas. The activities highlighted that just as the 3 Wise Men brought gifts to Jesus, we all have our own gifts to bring to the foot of our Lord. The most important part is knowing and sharing those gifts!
We enjoyed a delicious dinner with the Sors at the Hogar de Niñas, and managed to get away without a translator during dinner! Finally, we ended the night with the alumni reunion where we enjoyed each other’s company and played some games. ¡Oy passamos un buen día en el Hogar de Niñas y Hogar de Ancianos!
At the team’s nightly reflection we talked a lot about the beauty beneath the singing and dancing intertwined within the culture here. From turning on some music in the Hogar de Ancianos or singing alongside the Ninas (who are singing with their whole hearts and souls) while praying the rosary, they love to incorporate music into all aspects of their lives. I can’t think of a better way to build community and create universal culture than through this beauty. The joy reflecting from these individuals portrays the face of God so clearly.
Feeling extra thankful and blessed during these jam-packed days. We are soaking up every minute of it.
Amor,
As I am typing this, I can’t help but translate everything from English into Spanish in my head. ¡Me encánta!
