Sunday, Warm Welcome!!

Our day of travel went quite smoothly and we were met at the airport by a smiling Sor Deysi and Sor Matilde along with our longtime friend (and driver) Don Christian. We enjoyed a quick lunch and then headed out of San Pedro Sula to journey up into the hills toward Santa Rosa de Copàn. We arrived late in the afternoon and were greeted by the nuns at the Hogar de Ancianos (home for elderly). A few tears were shed as hugs were exchanged with old and new friends alike. After quickly unpacking, we headed to the Hogar de Niñas (home for girls). We were surprised with a shower of confetti (some may make it back to Kansas) and a serenade of our favorite songs! It was beautiful to hear the girls voices and then of course, many hugs were shared.

During our evening reflection, our reading was from Luke 16:19-25 (the parable of the rich man and Lazarus). One particular point from this meditation that stood out for us was, ” be mindful of what the poor offer us instead of focusing only on what we can give”. Help us to remember this week to listen and learn from each and every person we encounter, especially in those who are most vulnerable.

!Paz y bien!

Dani, Jane and Mike
