Friday: Care for God’s Creation

We were literally up with the roosters on Friday morning to travel back to Santa Rosa for several last opportunities to spend time with the nuns, girls and elderly. We shared warm goodbyes with the sisters at the home for children and they sent us off with snacks for the trip.

I couldn’t help but notice the amazing views we were experiencing on the drive which were in direct conflict with the extreme poverty all around us. We took a slightly different route coming back to SRC and the nuns were great guides as they shared points of interest to us along the way. We learned where many of the sisters and girls from the Hogar de Niñas were born or raised.

After we returned, a mass was held at the recently updated chapel at the hospital across the street from the elderly home. This order of nuns originally built and managed the hospital. The government took it over but the sisters have always maintained the chapel. The hurricane last year caused major damage to the roof and some of the walls, some of the funds we give were used to complete this update. This mass was in honor of this gift.

We then met with 2 of the alumni of the home for girls who are now attending medical school at the Catholic University along with their program manager. Each thanked St. Michael’s for the generous support they receive for their education. Estefany shared that this was a dream for her from the time she was a little girl.

Later in the afternoon, Sor Deysi (the director at the home for girls), walked us through all of the updates and project needs. The nuns treated us to lovely dinner of soup and taquitos.

We rested well after this long day!! God is good and His creation is glorious!

¡Paz!

Juanita
