Monday: Blessings

After our fun night at the pizza parlor last night we all awoke to another full schedule. Our 7:00 breakfast with the Sors in the Hogar de Ancianos every morning has been such a delight. This morning they sang their beautiful prayer for us. We again were served delicious food – especially their special recipe of plantains with cinnamon and cheese, and of course the Honduran coffee.

The sun came out just in time for us to visit with the elderly in their outside courtyard. They love to have music playing and certainly enjoy chatting with each of us. Being with them is such a beautiful witness of joy in suffering. Most of them are unable to walk without help and many are in pain, but their smiles and warm welcome are such a gift to each of us.

There is a beautiful little chapel which is managed by the Sors in the hospital across the street so we took a tour of the hospital and then took a few minutes to enjoy the chapel in prayer. It was an eye opening experience as to how we are so privileged in so many ways and that there are many opportunities to help serve the poor.

We then headed over to the girls who were thrilled to have us arrive. It was a joy to just play! We ran races, colored with sidewalk chalk, played foosball, and read to the girls. Cesar was a hit and we all enjoyed ourselves tremendously – it was nice not to worry about time or things to be done. We again prayed the Novena with the girls to get ready for the celebration of Madre Paula tomorrow which is always a nice time to be quiet and reflect on the day. Afterwards we served ice cream to the girls which is a special treat.

Dinner was another fun night of stories and laughter. As we walked home, we noticed the beautiful sky just full of stars, something you don’t see much in our cities. Spending time with each other, with the girls, and with the nuns truly blessed our Monday! Jenny
