Monday: Joy!

The reading today teaches us the importance of encouragement and the Gospel today shows us the path to God’s kingdom. What a better way to start my first trip to Honduras.

The word of the day is JOY. From our arrival joy is evident. Breakfast with the Sors, where laughter starts the day. The joy on the faces of the elderly as we played games and colored. We topped it off with a birthday party – complete with decorations, gifts, cake, and singing Feliz cumpleaños.

Another wonderful lunch – Lynn especially liked the ice cream!

The afternoon was spent with the girls who got off early from school today. We shared pen pals continuing the long relationship with the SMA parish school children.

An afternoon of shopping at the boutique allowed the girls to chose from a number of item generously donated by their SMA family. Getting to know the girls was a highlight. Encouraging them to practice their English brought a lot of giggles. Learning some of their stories helps me understand why their past challenges give hope for their future with the encouragement of so many – the other girls, the Sors, as well as all of us from SMA.

Joy is infectious. I fully expect dinner tonight will provide encouragement to the Sors … along with weeks of stories and laughter!

Adios, gracias

Chris
