Tuesday: Salt & Light!

As I reflect this evening, I am taken back to two key words of today’s Gospel – SALT and LIGHT.

Time was spent this morning with the Ancianos (elderly) painting crosses and simply being present.  They truly exemplify the “salt of the earth” and “light of the world”.

The afternoon was preparing for the Feast of St. Anthony of Padua – the patron Saint of the girls home. The home on this day is a beacon of light for the entire community.

This evening the bishop conducted a special Mass. This year 11 girls also received their Confirmation. The church was overflowing.

The Mass ended with a special blessing of the bread baked the girls prepared on Monday and as a tradition is given to those who attended Mass.

The celebration ended with a fiesta of tamales, cake, fireworks and conversation.

In closing, I cannot end today without reflecting on the true “salt and light” to the Ancianos and Ninas- the Sors (nuns).

Their joy, their service and their commitment to Jesus is always evident. I feel truly blessed.

Buenos Noches

Miguel (Mike)
