St. Michael the Archangel Honduras Mission Project

Today was our big day to visit our Unbound sponsored kids. Three of us on the team had this opportunity, but all of us made the visit. The ride was a unique experience including a ride in the bed of the truck. it was a beautiful day.We have two sponsored boys, one is 16 and we have sponsored him for over 10 years. The other is 5 and we have sponsored him for a year.  Mike and Lynn also were able to meet their 5 year old sponsored boy. 

What a great JOY it was to see them in person for the first time. We shared many hugs, mucho conversation (with the assistance of interpreters), lunch and lots of pictures.  God allowed us to be His “salt and light” to these boys and their families in person. They are so appreciative of the opportunities they have been given through our sponsorships. 

After leaving lunch, the team took us to an Unbound village called Las Sidras. The new community project is led by a president and vice president…both women.  They started with a group of 22 mothers trying to help out their community. There was no running water system, so at the beginning they couldn’t do laundry or wash dishes. Now they have water that comes from a tank that fills up from an underground spring. Nearly a 100 families benefit from the project. The project is called Agents of Change.  

After a long day, we came back and prayed the Rosary with the girls, had a traditional El Salvadoran meal (though we were in Honduras) with the Sors and many more laughs.I think we will all rest well tonight!!

The lesson for today:  Remember to always bring JOY to those you encounter throughout your day and be God’s “salt and light” to all. Even if you don’t think you are qualified, know that the Lord calls the unqualified and purifies their hearts because all qualifications come from him.
