Thursday – July 4

Our focus this week has been on the virtue of “Fortitude”. Today gave us the opportunity to put it into action.

After a beautiful 6 am Mass, we took the girls on an educational field trip. The intent was to visit both the Copán Ruins and the Macaw Mountain Bird Sanctuary.

This was a new experience for the girls as many had never ridden on a bus  before. As would have it a two hour bus ride turned into four (road construction) and we were forced to take mountain roads to our first destination, thus forcing us to eliminate the Copán Ruins on our schedule – “Fortitude”

The girls were amazing on the day – hanging out the windows, singing songs and having fun.

The time at the bird sanctuary allowed them to learn about birds native to Honduras and the importance of protecting a number of species.

Some of the girls even ventured into the river for a little toe dipping.

After leaving the bird sanctuary, we had arranged for an outdoor lunch. And, since we couldn’t make it to our next destination we added an ice cream stop to our adventure (no one complained).

As our team completed our nightly reflection, we were all amazed on how the girls and nuns handled the day – no fighting, complaining or frustration,  just accepting (although tired) the joy of the day!

Enjoy the pictures.

Paz y bien!

Miguel
