Hola from Honduras!

The group began our day in the wee hours of the morning as we headed out to the airport at 3 a.m. Thankfully, travel went smoothly and we made it through customs without any issues. We were greeted at the airport by Sor Matilde and Sor Genoveva and our amazing drivers Don Cristian and his brother, Luis. There were so many smiles and hugs! After stopping for a quick lunch we began the journey to Santa Rosa. The two-lane highway is being repaired in some sections which made the trip a slow go as only one lane of traffic could get through at a time in some areas. Nevertheless, spirits were high as we pulled into Santa Rosa just before 9:30 p.m. We were greeted at the Elderly Home with music and songs from some of the sisters and girls who live and help out at the home.
Albeit tired from a long day of travel, we were excited to head over to see the girls, knowing so many more hugs awaited us there! The girls had stayed up to see us. They sang us two beautiful songs, gave another round of hugs, then they headed off to bed while we ate dinner with the sisters at the Girls’ Home.
This evening, during the group reflection, we were each asked to share a hope, highlight, or surprise. The responses varied but much of what shone through was how important relationships are. Although we bring different groups down on each trip, we are each the face of St. Michael’s to the girls, elderly, and sisters, deepening our relationship with one another and with God. As we celebrate St. Michael’s 20th anniversary of partnering with both homes in Santa Rosa, we continue to focus on the importance of being rooted in hope and love as we strive to do that to which we are called: “You have been told, O mortal, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do justice and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.” (Micah 6:8) Paz y bien and thank you for your prayers!
