We began the day with breakfast with the Sors at the elderly home and then met up with the girls for the 20 minute walk to the Cathedral for Mass. Back at the elderly home we pulled out the games and once again had quite a comical time playing the Honduras version of bingo. The elderly enjoy this interaction so much. We gave the elderly, Sors and Jovenes their gifts from St Michaels, they were very much appreciated.

After lunch with the Sors at the elderly home, we went back to the home for the Ninas (girls).
When we first arrived in Honduras we divided the girls into teams and gave them books to read throughout the week. The books were Tuck Everlasting, Wonder, The BFG, The One and Only Ivan and the life story of Carlo Acutis. We held a “battle of the books”, asking questions for the teams, relevant to the books. The girls all competed well and team Honey Girls took the trophies!

We spent the rest of the day playing with the girls and enjoying our last hours together.
The girls put a show on for us tonight, singing, dancing and preforming skits – it was adorable as always. I am always amazed how the older girls take care of the younger girls without complaint, they are truly family. We were presented with gifts and reminded repeatedly how much they value St. Michael’s parish for continuing with this mission. We promised we would take all of their love and good wishes back with us.
I wish I could convey in words the impact this mission has on so many lives. We were given a letter by a girl who graduated from the house a few years ago. She is studying English and wrote us a letter, in English, telling us of the impact of our mission on her and many other girls. We can never truly realize the importance of our visits, with God’s help we are changing lives, what could be better than that?
I am often asked when going on a mission trip what we’re doing, if we’re building a church or a school, etc. I always explain that this mission is relationship based, the girls and elderly depend on our visits twice a year, the sisters told us tonight that as soon as a group leaves, the girls start asking when the next group from St. Michaels will come. Building relationships is so impactful and reverberates further than we can ever see. We as a community are changing lives!
I personally can’t wait until the next time I come to Honduras. As always, I find that I receive so much more than I give, God’s blessings are infinite! I almost feel guilty for the love and appreciation that is meant for the whole of St. Michaels. My wish for all of you is that you could feel the impact of this love. I am so blessed!
I want to thank our travel team for the support and love and most especially those working behind the scenes, making all of this possible. I can’t wait to come back! It is never adios, but hasta luego!!
Go Chiefs!!! Lynn
