Aug. 7 – Play Time!!

Hola!

Lynn here, giving Tito a break from blogging 😉

We had another busy fun-filled day beginning with our team prayer and breakfast with the Sors (nuns) in the elderly home. After spending time visiting and playing games with the elderly we had a beautiful Mass in the chapel.

A coffee shop named Café de las Velas was our next stop. This adorable shop is owned by Sonia who has been a mentor and employer for many of the girls in the orphanage. Every trip we go there and purchase coffee and gifts to bring back to the U.S., look for them for sale at St. Michaels next month!

We trekked back to the orphanage and enjoyed a delicious, although interesting lunch with the Sors. (Eating fish with its head still on was the interesting part!) followed by an impromptu jam session with Sor Juanita on the guitar.

The afternoon was spent with the girls in the orphanage. We did science experiments with items/ingredients we brought from home…jumping rice, elephant toothpaste, lava lamps and water beads. Seriously…google them! While Sharon and Julie were doing science, I was busy doing the planned craft activity with the girls. They are all so unique and everyone enjoyed the fairy/princess crowns they created. This activity took us to dinner time with the Sors and more interesting conversation via Magda and Yeny’s translation. We shared many stories and a lot of laughter, it’s fun to hear the nun’s stories from their own childhoods. Tonight we asked the Sors what kind of things they got in trouble for when they were growing up, for a price I may reveal a story or two!

It has been such a wonderful trip and we all continue to be in awe of the beauty and grace of our Honduran friends. We are humbled by the Sor’s joy in servitude and the ability of all the girls in the orphanage to live in harmony and gratitude for the little they have. Each time I’ve come here over the past 10 years I am continually amazed by the love and peace I feel. They have so little but are willing to share, they know what’s important and keep God as their center.

Tonight during our team prayer and reflection this sentiment was echoed by all. We are seeing God’s love reflected in the faces of the elderly, children and Sors we have the privilege of serving and loving here in Honduras. We are truly blessed!

Buenas noches!
